  7. Ability to work as a team and with minimal supervision.
  8. Good physical health, ability to lift 70 pounds.
  9. Ability to read and follow instructions.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the immediate supervision of the Utility Supervisor the Utility Employee performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and operation of the water and wastewater distribution and collection system, storm water drainage, streets, parks, fleet, and building maintenance. Acceptable safe practices must be followed in the performance of all work. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Exposure to hazards such as traffic, confined spaces, chemicals, and heavy equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate distribution water pumps, turns valves, pulls levers, and flip switches to operate and the control pumps.
  • Read flow meters and gauges to regulate equipment recording all data.
  • Adjust automatic chemical distribution devices for water treatment.
  • Test water samples and record all data
  • Operate and control electric motors, pumps and valves.
  • Inspect equipment to detect malfunctions or repairs needed.  
  • The ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Operate, maintain, and small repairs of heavy equipment and assist in the setup of traffic control devices as necessary.
  • Provide quality customer service to all internal and external customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; these duties may encompass other departments

The operator may be assigned other duties related to Streets and Drainage, Parks/Grounds Maintenance, Solid Waste Collection and Fleet/Building Services

As deemed necessary by the Director of Public Works.
