A skunk found in northwest Lubbock County has tested positive for rabies.
The Abernathy Local Rabies Control Authority reminds you to please notify Animal Control if you notice any nocturnal animals out during the day.
Please take the following precautions:
* Keep vaccinations up to date for all pets.
* Keep your pets under direct supervision so they do not come in contact with wild animals. If your pet is bitten, Report the bite immediately by calling Abernathy Animal Control at 806-298-2546 or 806-801-2700, so the animal may be placed in observation or submitted for rabies testing.
* Do not handle, feed, or unintentionally attract wild animals with open garbage cans or litter.
* Never adopt wild animals or bring them into your home.
Remember to vaccinate your pets against rabies as is required by law.
